Fine Baby Grass on Fire

Furious pale winds

Blow from a smoky blue sky

Sinking talons deep into the earth's newborn covering

Translucent and burning

The front picture window gave way to the heat, sending shards of tinkling glass exploding across the empty room. Cut by the glass, I fell to the floor. I woke in the blurring heat and brought my hand to my face, finding a massive welt, puffed out like a sponge, bleeding. And I found myself by the window, staring out throught the empty frame. The open field breathed flames, rippling the fabric before me, as someone was standing there, in the distance.

A woman

Stood in the center

Untouched, naked

Motionless--flowing with the grass

In a torrid wind

Eyes closed

Feeling the earth

The grass

With her bare feet
